The Love of Pumpkin!

Last night we had a girl's night in the kitchen!  With the help of my two favotire girls, Olivia and Lauren - we baked some fresh, delicious fall cookies!

The recipe was perfect!!!  Everything a fall cookie should be.  Sweet, spicy, warm, and comforting.  It is a recipe that I am locking tightly into my SUPER RECIPE vault!!!

What flavor, you ask?  Frosted Pumpkin Spice.  They had a very cakey consistency - they way I love a cookie!  They were small and addictive.  Easy to pop into your mouth - which made them dangerous to say the least!  The recipe called for a cream cheese like drizzle for the frosting.  I changed it up a bit and decided to go with traditional fluffy, vanilla buttercream and a light dusting of cinnamon.  They were adorable and I can't wait to bake more!

Speaking of pumpkin.  I am offering pies for the holiday season!  Classic Pumpkin is definately in the line-up!  They will be available mid-October through the end of the year.  More talk of pies soon... I am looking forward to baking up some smiles!

Return of Hello Kitty

The oven is heating up now...  This kitchen is getting ready to prepare one of my all time fav's!  Hello Kitty Cupcakes!

I am baking them for a friend who's mother adores this little icon!  This is the second time she has requested them from me...  That alone makes me smile!  This time they will be classic chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream.

When I was first presented with the challenge for a Hello Kitty themed cupcake - I played over and over in my head, the best way to make them look great.  I could not settle for the easy way out - which was to add a little plastic figure to the top of the cupcake.  That just would not have worked!  I am always happy to take on any request.  This was a blast to do and they tasted soooo good, too!

Jackson's 4th Birthday - Race Car Cupcakes

Jackson has turned 4!  He is the son of a co-worker of L.J.'s  I delivered 3 dozen cupcakes to Pump It Up - an inflatable wonder-world - this morning  The cupcakes were chocolate with vanilla butttercream - in red liners, with black sprinkles.  Two dozen of had little, multi-colored race cars - enough so each child would be sure to get one.  The remaining dozen were decked out with the classic checkered flag.

These were so fun to make!  I am usually partial to the "fluffy, girly" cupcakes - but this race car theme was probably one of my favorites!   I sure hope that little Jackson devoured and loved every little crumb!  A cute idea for the display - that was a total after-thought... an actual play racetrack.  It would have been PERFECT!  This particular order was not displayed in that fashion - but I wish they could have been!  Since it was a "drop off" I did not get to see them displayed in all of thir glory - of the cars mixed with the flags.  Time just did not permit that to happen with this order.

Sooo, Jackson... Happy Birthday, Buddy!  I hope your 4th Birthday was the BEST Birthday EVER!!!

WHEW!!!

So. I am finally back! I can't believe how long it has been since a post. A lot has happened since February! I am currently in my third trimester of pregnancy! Obviously much time has been spent growing this little baby of ours! Everything is going wonderfully with this process and I could not be more thankful for that. I have been doing some cupcake/cake business in the midst of this which has kept me busy and happy.

I am currently planning a holiday menu. This will include the classic pies: Pumpkin, Apple, and Pecan; cookies, goodies, and side dishes. Also, I am creating a "light fares" type of menu to offer for showers, small get-togethers, and what-not. Basicallly a menu of cold items such as sandwiches, wraps, meat/cheese/fruit platters, dips, and appetizers. I believe that the love that I have for food can be expressed through much more than just cupcakes. However, those little sweeties will always be my favorite!

I have thought about changing the name "Sugarplum's Cupcakes" to something that would reflect more extensive offerings. I just have a hard time actually parting with this name - I have become so attached to it. It is a part of me. With it being so specific - it seems that it may be hard to market other items through that name alone. If I get a wild hair - you just may pop into this site and see a new header soon... Ya just never know.

To completely change the subject... My mother's on-line business is booming! She is selling designer fabric and patterns all over the world! The latest one that we shipped to was Isreal! It is amazing to see the success she has earned. I am actually toying with the idea of learning to sew! Being around it and talking about it everyday takes the intimidation out of it - completely! My first attempt will indeed be something easy - like a pillowcase. That's easy, right? Ultimately, I would like to start creating those fun, flirty aprons and make them available through Sugarplum's Cupcakes, join my good friend Liz in setting up booths at craft shows, etc. Liz has been working like crazy in creating her new business, "Bagging Rights by Liz". She has great talent and is fun to work with. Needless to say, the three of us (my mother, Liz, and myself) are quite the trio of talent! We have all that we need to encourage each other and offer great things to the world!

As you can see... The time spent away from this blog has been a "soul searching" kind of absence. It has been inspiring to experience the thought process of channeling talent to create happiness. We all learn through trial, error, mistakes, encouragement, support systems, and finally - just doing! Look forward to seeing more... much more from Sugarplum's Cupcakes. This is only the beginning!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and offered kind words, suggestions, criticizims, and love. I appreciate each and every one of you!

Fatal Attraction and Defeating Temptation!

What is the most incredible food combination in the world??? Chocolate and Peanut Butter... Hands down!

I happily call these: Fatal Attraction. The description states: peanut butter seducing chocolate. However, after giving this MUCH thought. I have to say that I am now torn! The one being seduced by this cuppy is ME!!!

I had 5 little cupcakes left. Just staring at me as they sat quietly on the counter in our kitchen. God knows, I do not need 5 cupcakes - and LJ is militantly sticking to new eating habits. Defeating the pressure and temptation... I packaged them up, hopped into my flip-flops and hurried off to the neighbor's house. With big smiles, I handed them right over. Since I do not have keys to their house - I am safe! At least until tomorrow - when I bake more!

Sweet Dreams!

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cupcakes... A BIG Thank You!!!

Thank you to everyone who ordered the Valentine's Day Cupcakes!
This is a picture of the Chocolate Covered Cherry Cupcake... It was a first! But definately NOT the last!

I used the standard chocolate covered marichino cherry for this particular order. In the future - I will be looking out and trying chocolate covered morello cherries. I did, however, visit a gourmet chocolatier located in Fairway "Annadore's." They were extremely helpful and informative. At the time of my visit the only Morello cherries they had available were soaked in brandy and imported from Germany. The only thing that kept me from them is that I was in need of stems for the presentation I was anticipating. They gave me some good resources to find some with stems that I will investigate for the future.

I purchased the cherries used from Laura Little's. They were not the cordial type - just plain chocolate dipped. But very delicious! I achieved the presentation that I had in mind and they stole the show! I would definately love to see these little cuties displayed in my cupcake shop! They certainly have all of the characteristics of that perfect-pretty-little-cuppy! YUM!
